NUML Islamabad celebrates Hangeul Day
NUML has recently observed 578th Hangeul Day:
Hangeul is the Korean alphabet which was devised few centuries ago. It was occasion which show the enhancement educational and cultural relationship between Pakistan and republic of Korea. Facilitated by NUML’s Department of Korean Language & Culture this competition was sponsored by the Islamabad King Sejong Institute and the Seed Program for Korean Studies.
The ceremony was held at NUML Auditorium:-
Salam Block where the participation of few honorable guests was marked. These were Mr. JeeEunSeok, Secretary at the Embassy of Korea as chief guest, Director General NUML Brigadier Shahzad Munir, and other esteemed members from Korean and Pakistani society.
Introducing the ceremony:
The Dean of the Faculty of Languages wished everyone warm welcome. In his speech, he, therefore, pointed out the recent interest of students at NUML towards learning Korean as well as the sweet diplomacy involved in fostering relations between nations. He pointed out how individuals realise that learning foreign languages creates the basis for improved understanding globally and cooperation.
Brigadier Shahzad Munir:
NUML’s Director General went further to share his key note address where he highlighted the historical and transforming narrative of bilateral relation between Pakistan and Korea. He said the Korean language which he noted is as old as 578 years has significance to the rest of the world because of Korea’s impact on culture and innovation. He pointed to some innovation change he noticed in Korea today stating that especially brands like Samsung, Korea’s tech industry though behind other global brands like Apple has leapfrogged forward many times. He also commended the growth of automobile industry in Korea as one of the sign of advancement industrially.

Munir thanked the Korean Ambassador for pledging to provide full scholarships to students of NUML, progress which enhances the educational cooperation between the countries. “NUML is proud of spearheading programs that eliminates barriers to intercultural communication and appreciation,” the Brigadier stated. “It is our commitment to opening students to different opportunities and helping them establish connections with people of different culture that is displayed through celebrating Hangeul Day.”
The special speech was presented by the Chief Guest Mr JeeEunSeok who read a message on behalf of the His excellency Park Ki Jun the Korean Ambassador to Pakistan. During his speech, Mr. Seok explained what Hangeul Day is and why it is important for Korea and its background. He also mentioned achievements of King Sejong the Great who established the Korean alphabets with the purpose of disseminating literacy and writing among his people.
During the event:
The level of understanding between Pakistan and Korea particularly the business circles has developed into respect and emerging partnership. It appears that by NUML’s continuous programs of promoting the Korean language and culture and with the support of Korean affiliated institutions, there is improving bond between academic ties of the two countries. In addition to the raising awareness of Hangeul and its significance, it also reminded the party and the future cooperative relation between two nation.
